Two Baskets of Figs

The Lord had me turn to Jeremiah 24 and then spoke a very sobering word. He said that the separation in the body of Christ has already taken place between those who serve Him with a whole heart and those who don't. He said that those who have given Him all of their hearts will now receive ALL OF HIM!

JEREMIAH 24:1-10 - "The Lord showed me: behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple of the Lord! One basket had very good figs, like first-ripe figs, and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten due to rottenness."

The Lord says in Jeremiah that He will set His eyes on the "good figs" to plant them and build them up. He will fully enter into covenant with those who have completely given themselves to Him. We will have unparalleled access to all that He is and all that He has in a way that has not been available before this time

What's the verdict for those who have not yielded to the gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) nudgings of the Holy Spirit over the past number of years? Following are some of the things I believe the Lord has shown me through His Word:

1. According to Jeremiah 24:8, the Lord will abandon (give up) the bad figs. He will remove His presence and His blessings.
2. According to Isaiah 22:8, He will remove their covering.
3. According to Hosea 4:17, the Lord will "let them alone". Thus, these Christians will be left to their own devices, reaping from the ways of the world and the world system as "darkness covers the earth and deep darkness the peoples" (Isa.60:2).

  1. Ms. Hargrove,

I saw this word posted on the Faith Tabernacle website which I read regularly. While I agree the Lord is, and has been, calling His people up, I found your interpretation troubling.

I Corinthians 14:3 states that prophecy is for the edification, exhortation and comfort of men. Your word can only serve to leave men hopeless. I can’t imagine a time that would be appropriate to speak the word you gave. Even an individual turning away from the Lord after extensive counsel wouldn’t merit this word. Scripture is clear that there are times when the Lord will stop pursuing a person. It is a fearful thing. But I don’t believe it is ever for us to say. Many times in scripture the Lord spoke His judgment, but because there was a cry for mercy and repentance that rose up, He relented. Who are we to ever say a person is beyond the redeeming power of mercy and grace? I believe that is for the Lord and the Lord alone to determine. Should we warn people? By all means, yes, but no more than that. For the Lord also said He would never leave or forsake those who are His.

One area of concern is that you didn’t define who the “body of Christ” is. There are believers at every point on the continuum of sanctification. And every single one of us is fighting a hard battle. There are many who though they may be immature, and even trapped in bondage, haven’t reached the point where the Lord has stopped pursuing them (though this certainly can happen if one hardens their heart long enough). Yet many such people might read your word and feel that it is the word of the Lord to them and simply let go of the ground they are trying to hold because they believe He has passed them by. It creates a platform for the devil to shout his condemnation and lead to great hopelessness and sin for those who aren’t sure where they stand. And I promise you in the heat of battle there are many who don’t have clarity.

Thank you for considering this perspective.

  2. I beg to differ from the above comment. This word blessed me so much and confirmed to me that the Lord is with me and I can't wait to see more of Jesus in my life as I remain obedient to Him and submit to His word and precious Holy Spirt! You see I am also from Houston, TX and I left my career, family/friends, and comfort of home to do a program call The Movement at the well known Dream Center in Los Angeles. I wanted to serve God and dedicate all of me to Him, however not everyone that say LOrd, Lord is one of His. They do a lot of good works but they have forgotten their first love. You see that program focus on us submitting to the leaders and not questioning them. The put the leader above God yet they say all this is for God. I have no problem honoring authority but that was not the issue the issue is they want to break you down so you will submit to them and the program. They wanted us to do pacts and not question anything and to trust all the leaders. I told the leader Galatians 1:10 that it is more important for me to win the favor of God and not man. This happen on 10/17/2010 they decided to kick me out along with another girl. They gave us 2hr to pack everything and leave the permises. They did not care if we didn't have a place to go or that it was late. They escorted us out like criminals becuase they saw us as someone bringing negativity and division to the program and the leader stated that he was secure in the program, the leaders and himself, he mention nothing about God. So yes, your prophetic word was right on target to what I experienced. I am grateful that I was previlege to be persecuted for His name sake not only myself but 4 other girls. So as I woke up the next day and read this word in my email that I recieve via a Prophetic List Ministry, God confirm that He is with us and that He will never leave us or forsake us. I shared this with the other girls and our parents and we rejoice that we are part of the good figs!!! Thank you for your obedience to Him and may God continue to bless you mightly!!!
